These terms govern your use of the FileMax Tax website and client portal. By creating an account or submitting information, you agree to them.

What we do, and what we don't

FileMax Tax is a matching service. We collect information about your tax situation and introduce you to an independent, licensed tax preparer (CPA, Enrolled Agent or PTIN holder). We do not prepare or file tax returns, and nothing on this site is tax, legal or financial advice. Refund estimates on the site are rough illustrations, not a promise of any amount.

Your preparer

The preparer you are matched with is a separate business, not our employee or agent. Your engagement, their fees and the work on your return are between you and them. They must tell you their fee before starting, and you are free to decline.

Fees

Matching is free. Your preparer gives you a quote before any work starts, and you decide whether to go ahead. FileMax Tax does not charge you for matching.

Your responsibilities

Give truthful, complete information, keep your login secure, and only upload documents that belong to you or that you are authorized to share.

Sharing and communications

How we share your information and when we may call or text you is described in our Privacy Policy.

Limitation of liability

The service is provided "as is". To the extent the law allows, FileMax Tax is not liable for the work of independent preparers or for outcomes caused by inaccurate information you provide.
